Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner Review
I bought this after much online research and figured it had to be too good to be true. A product that would clean without chemicals, not be hard to use, and not need a million pieces! This mop is very light to move, the pad is easy to clean via wash or sink. I most like how it doesn’t leave streaks. Everything else I’ve used on my sealed hardwood floors leaves streaks. No more on my hands and knees! The only things that are a little pain are that you have to take the pad off the bottom after use so that you don’t leave a wet spot (no different than any other mop), the cord tends to be on the short side, there is no way to turn it off except by unplugging it, and that if you aren’t careful with the amount of steam you will have to go over the flooring with a towel. This is only a problem on the wood, on ceramic it dries without problem. I’ve been on the lookout for a product that is easy and efficient. After having mine for a month I am still happy and would recommend it to anyone. Oh, this is Randall’s wife writing the review.

Everything about this product is great except for how it leaves my floor. I may be using it in a way that I shouldn’t, so let me clarify. I keep my small dog in my kitchen all day while I’m at work. I put down puppy pads for her to go to the bathroom. Sometimes she has accidents. I use this steam mop to clean up the floor. I use a clean pad every time I mop, but it still leaves the floor feeling greasy and sticky after I’ve mopped it. It might just be redistributing what I’m trying to clean up, but I don’t like how my tiles feel under my feet when I’m done. It just doesn’t feel clean. If don’t have a dog who is going to the bathroom in your kitchen, it might work perfect for you. The design, ease of use, color of the mop, etc. are all great, though. You do have to use distilled water to keep it running smoothly, not just regular tap water.

I kept hearing about steam ‘mops’ and had to have one. I guess this one is okay if you are looking for something like a mop but you don’t wring it out. I apparently used way too much steam and soaked the pad. It didn’t work too well after that and I had to replace the pad. Next time I used it I used little steam and it cleaned. I will keep using my floormate but will use this to sanatize around the garbage can, dogs’ food bowls and for quick clean ups. To me, no differnt than a swifter mop. Doesn’t do any better or worse. Does not cut hard to clean grime. I still need to use elbow grease on some parts of the tile. Wouldn’t use on my hardwood because I’m afraid of what it would do to sealed hardwood. Not a good investment and will keep my floormate.

Much faster and easier than mop and bucket. Overall, I like mine and am glad I bought it. I’ll tell you what I learned. I’ve had mine for a year and a half or so. Buy the green pads not the white. Expect to replace the filter once a year. Expect to go through 4 pads a year. I’m not sure but I think Bissell has stopped making the steam mop altogether it would be good to check before buying a new one. It doesn’t really sanitize unless you hold it in place for 15 seconds. The cord is a bit short.

Like other Bissell items, they have some great ideas, but the quality is not there to keep them working. I’m on my 3rd one. The 1st kept tripping my GFCI outlet, the 2nd leaked a lot of water due to a bad fit for the water tank. Now I’ll have to see how the 3rd is. I agree with the others that the pad isn’t great. It wears quickly and gets thin. The streaks they talk about may be due to leakage. I didn’t know mine was leaking at first, the floors just seemed very wet after use. It was less than 2 months old and I’d have to let it drain in the sink until all the water was gone, AFTER removing the water tank. You need to watch out if using it on vinyl flooring, it can actually melt it and leave permanent ripples in the vinyl. It’s rounded corners don’t get in the corners very well either. I loved it when I first got it but the problems aren’t worth it to me.
